Design Principles for Circularity

Circularity doesn't start with a take-back bin. It starts on the drawing board.

Less than 1% of global textile waste is recycled into new textiles. The rest ends up in landfill, incineration, or generally contaminating nature. Most conversations about circular fashion focus on what happens at the end, like recycling or resale. These are all important, but if a garment isn't designed for circularity from day one, no system can truly fix it later.

That's the problem we set out to solve.

The Design Principles for Circularity are the framework that guides how every ARMEDANGELS garment is conceived, designed, and made. Four principles, applied to every product in every season. Not as a one-off capsule or a marketing exercise, but as the way we work.

THE FOUR PRINCIPLES

Principle I: Designed for Repeat, Not Regret

We don't design products that are rarely worn and quickly forgotten. Our goal is simple: increase product use, more frequently and for longer.

Principle II: Materials That Matter

We don't believe in dead ends. We design every product with its end in mind and ideally, a new beginning. The tall benchmark is that everything — from fiber to trim — is selected to play well with high-value textile-to-textile recycling systems.

Principle III: Designed to Return, Not Retire

We don't believe in dead ends. We design every product with its end in mind and ideally, a new beginning. The tall benchmark is that everything — from fiber to trim — is selected to play well with high-value textile-to-textile recycling systems.

Principle IV: Built to Stay, Made to Evolve

We design for long life and life changes. We build in durability as standard, then layer in either repairability or transformability. Because when garments can be fixed, grow, flex, or bounce back, they stay in use longer. And that's the point.

Beyond the Drawing Board

The principles aren't just words on a page. Every style in our collection is assessed against them, giving us a clear picture of where we are and what still needs work. We track progress openly in our annual Impact Report, the good, the not yet, and everything in between.
