Leggings and bras:
Our ACTIVEWEAR leggings and sports bras are made from 93% recycled material, setting a new standard for conserving valuable resources. The main component is recycled polyamide, which is 100% derived from production waste. The products are GRS-certified*.
By the way: the raw material for the fabric is fibers that arise as waste products during the spinning process. These are collected and re-spun. At the same time, this raw material is finite, meaning that when demand is high, we must expect longer delivery times for new products.
Shirts: The main component of our soft, sporty shirts is TENCEL™ Lyocell. Lyocell is a cellulose fiber made with wood as a renewable raw material. The shirts are also lightweight and breathable, and thanks to the Naturally Clean® finish, they last a good fifth longer [Source: Novozymes A/S].
GRS stands for Global Recycled Standard. Our ACTIVEWEAR leggings and sports bras are our first GRS-certified products.
The Global Recycled Standard is a voluntary recycling standard that, in addition to the proportion of recycled fibers, also includes additional criteria such as social and environmental aspects. The aim of the initiative is to significantly increase the proportion of recycled materials.
We use 93% recycled fibers for our ACTIVEWEAR leggings and sports bras. The polyamide content is 100% recycled from pre-consumer waste. Polyamide is the second most commonly used synthetic fiber globally, but the proportion of recycled polyamide was only 1.94% globally in 2020. [Source: Textile Exchange, Preferred Fibers Market Report 2021]
Synthetic fibers have a bad reputation, and in most cases, rightly so. While fibers like cotton are renewable, synthetic fibers are based on petroleum. This rightly raises alarm bells. But it's worth taking a closer look: cotton isn't inherently good either. Massive groundwater pollution in often already dry growing areas, the use of synthetic pesticides and harmful fertilizers are just a few of the factors that have prompted us to use organic cotton for our cotton products instead of conventional cotton.
However, when it comes to performance fabrics, i.e., products used in sports, for example, even organic cotton reaches its limits, and this again lies in the material's properties. Renewable fibers like cotton absorb sweat, develop odors, and dry slowly.
For our leggings and sports bras, we have therefore looked for the most sustainable solution and are working with materials that are quick-drying, lightweight, breathable and durable.
We use recycled polyamide, which is 100% made from production waste. According to industry experts, polyamides are less susceptible to shedding or fiber breakage than polyester, for example. Polyamides like nylon are considered abrasion-resistant [Source: European Outdoor Group/Outdoor Industry Association via microfibreconsortium.com].
In addition, we avoid mechanical treatment steps that damage or roughen the surface, which can lead to even greater microfiber abrasion.
However, while reliable comparative studies on the abrasion of different fibers are lacking, we recommend following our washing and care instructions. Incidentally, the elastane content is also 58% recycled. This brings us to a total of 93% recycled content – the most resource-efficient performance fabric we can offer.
The rest is up to you: please follow our instructions for washing and caring for your new ACTIVEWEAR!
Note care symbols
To wash clothes correctly and in the best possible way, you should always pay attention to the care symbols.
Sort clothes correctly
By separating textiles with a hard surface, such as jeans, from those with a particularly soft surface, whether our ACTIVEWEAR or fleece, for example, you significantly reduce fiber shedding. This protects the environment from microplastics and protects your clothing. This is especially true for shoes, which have no place in the wash cycle with your ACTIVEWEAR.
Use environmentally friendly care products
Choose an environmentally friendly detergent for washing your clothes and make sure you use the right amount. Sustainable color detergents (organic) are particularly suitable. Overdosing won't make your clothes any cleaner, but it will harm the environment.
Set low spin speed
Choose a low spin speed. High spin speeds can put a strain on the fibers.
Air dry
The mechanical stress in the tumble dryer causes fiber breakage. Our activewear dries very quickly, so simply let it air dry. Avoiding the tumble dryer is better for your clothes and the environment.
